Begin to construct Phu Quoc International Airport

Groundbreaking ceremony was held by Southern Airport Corporation in order to celebrate Phu Quoc International Airport which began to construct at Duong To ward, Phu Quoc District, Kien Giang Province on 23 November 2008. In accordance with harnessing project, Phu Quoc Airport will be the international airport as 4E range. It can afford long range airplanes such as B777, B747-700. The absorbed aircraft in peak time is 20 with capacity is around 7 million passengers per annum and absorbed cargo is around 27.600 tons per annum. Total area of the airport is 905.31 ha , total investment for the construction is over 16.200 billion VND. The investor is Southern Airport Corporation. The target in quarter II/2012, Phu Quoc International Airport will be operated and by the end of the year 2009, SAC will commence to build terminal with capacity around 3 million passengers per annum.

According to Vietnam news agency, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stated at the ceremony that he considered the project possessed a significant meaning, a breakthrough which contributed to local and national development.
